Mission
Our mission at Black Mountain Meditation is to radiate warmth and wakefulness. We are an inclusive online and in-person community centred around meditation, deep spiritual practice and social engagement.
Values
An intergenerational community that is youthful at heart. We present practices accessible for all ages and make a special effort to platform young teachers.
Open to diverse viewpoints and traditions. Inspired by the 19th century Tibetan Buddhist Rimé movement, we will create a place where authentic wisdom traditions – both Buddhist and non-Buddhist – can meet.
For everyone. The spaces we create are for everyone, inclusive of all genders, ethnicities, religions and sexualities. We are committed to learning about and changing the ways we unconsciously reproduce dynamics and structures of prejudice, so that everybody is welcomed and supported in attending the events that we design.
Of our time, innovative. Spiritual practice always happens now. We will explore innovative ideas and approaches, while at the same time not compromising the genuine heart of these ancient spiritual traditions.
A safe environment. We have a zero tolerance policy for abuse. We will do everything we can to create situations in which meditation can be practised and teachings studied in a safe environment.
Not overstretching. We endevour to make this work sustainable and healthy so that it can continue through difficult times to come. We aspire to look after ourselves and each other, mindful of our needs at any given moment.
Learning from feedback. The work we are attempting to do is difficult and we will make mistakes. We will create an environment of honest feedback and assessment, so we can take past mistakes into consideration when planning our next steps.
Balancing kindness with intelligence. We believe that everyone deep down has access to a wellspring of intelligence and kindness although this can be obscured by our habits and opinions. We aspire to act from this place as much as possible and realign with it whenever we make a misstep.
